SUPER DUPLEX 2507
Special Piping Materials has been a leading stockist of super duplex 2507 for many years, so what is super duplex 2507?
Super duplex 2507 (UNS S32750) is a high-alloy super duplex stainless steel with 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel. The minimum PRE value (pitting resistance equivalent) for super duplex 2507 is 42.
It is ideal for use in applications which require for the steel in question to have exceptional strength and corrosion resistance. Super Duplex 2507 also has good weldability and very high mechanical strength.
Super duplex 2507’s resistance to corrosion, chloride pitting and crevice corrosion attack is mainly down to its high molybdenum, chromium and nitrogen content. Furthermore, the duplex structure (equal parts austenitic and ferritic stainless steel) provides super duplex 2507 with remarkable resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking.
The unique properties of super duplex 2507 mean that it is particularly suited for use in aggressive environments such as warm chlorinated seawater and acidic, chloride containing media.
Super duplex 2507 properties
The combination of properties given by austenitic and ferritic structure mean that Super duplex 2507 is a very useful metal. The density of super duplex 2507 is 7.8 g/cm3 and its melting point is 1350°C.
The properties of Super duplex 2507 include:
- Super duplex 2507 has high resistance to corrosion, in particular pitting and crevice corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.
- Super duplex 2507 has high mechanical strength.
- Super duplex 2507 has high resistance to erosion corrosion and corrosion fatigue.
- Super duplex 2507 has good weldability.
- Super duplex 2507 has high yield strength.
Super duplex 2507 applications
Super duplex 2507 can widely be found in offshore oil and gas exploration and production applications, as well as in heat exchangers in petrochemical and chemical processing. Super duplex 2507’s properties also mean it is suitable for hydraulic and instrumentation applications in tropical marine environments.
