SUPER DUPLEX UNS S32760 (F55)

Super Duplex UNS S32760 (F55) is a highly alloyed super duplex stainless steel that is ideally suited for use in harsh environments where there is a high possibility of corrosion.

Super Duplex UNS S32760 (F55) has its origins in the North Sea, where it was originally developed to be a seawater resistant material for pump applications. Its success in this environment means it now has a wide range of applications in the oil and gas industry and beyond.

Super Duplex UNS S32760 (F55) has a ferritic-austenitic microstructure which means it has the high strength of a ferritic grade metal, while retaining its ability to resist corrosion, like austenitic grades.

It can often be used as the solution to chloride-induced stress cracking, as well as having high resistance to sulphide-stress corrosion cracking.

Super Duplex UNS S32760 (F55) is also highly regarded for its high impact strength. It has the added benefit that if the metal is welded, or exposed to decreased temperatures, it only experiences a slight reduction in impact energy.

Super Duplex UNS S32760 is one of the most common super duplex grades on the market. It is similar to UNS S32750 except that it has additions of W and Cu. It is often thought of as a cost-effective super duplex stainless steel.

• Super Duplex UNS S32760 welding: Like standard austenitic stainless steels, various welding methods are available when working with UNS S32760, including shielded metal arc welding, TIG welding, and plasma welding. The use of welding electrodes for UNS S32760 is recommended.
• Super Duplex UNS S32760 heat treatment: Like all duplex stainless steels, UNS S32760 cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but it can be work hardened and solution annealed at 1110-1140oC, water quench.

Super duplex UNS S32760 (F55) has a range of useful benefits, specifically providing excellent corrosion resistance and strength properties. It is known to combine high mechanical strength (up to 600 MPa yield strength) with good ductility and outstanding corrosion resistance.

• Super duplex UNS S32760 corrosion resistance. UNS S32760 is supplied with a PREN (Pitting Resistance Equivalent) at >=40.0 which means it has a high resistance to pitting corrosion, but it also offers high resistance to crevice corrosion, as well as stress corrosion cracking in seawater and other chloride containing environments.
• A critical pitting temperature that exceeds 50°C
• High strength when compared to other austenitic and 22%Cr duplex stainless steels
• Excellent ductility and impact strength
• High mechanical strength
• High resistance to abrasion, erosion and cavitation erosion
