What are the components of an FPSO?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Firstly, \u2018FPSO\u2019 stands for \u2018Floating Production Storage and Offloading\u2019 and is essentially a floating vessel that is used for the production, storage, transportation and delivery of crude oil.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

FPSOs are extensively used by oil and gas<\/a> companies as one of the primary methods of processing and storing oil and are seen as an essential part of the offshore industry. Read on to find out more about FPSOs and SPM’s role in creating them.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\"Components<\/a><\/p>\n

The world\u2019s first FPSO was built by Shell in 1977. Most modern FPSOs feature the same array of equipment and components (detailed below). The various equipment and components of an FPSO allow it to separate, process, store and offload hydrocarbons that are extracted from sub-sea oil wells or platforms.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, most FPSOs take the form of a super tanker and sometimes it can be tricky to differentiate between the two. Usually, an FPSO can be identified because the processing equipment is stored aboard the vessel\u2019s deck, rather than below the hull.<\/p>\n

FPSOs are often used in frontier regions where there is little to no local pipeline infrastructure to export oil.<\/p>\n
