One of the key members of the Brazilian team is Matheus Santiago, who joined Special Piping Materials at the beginning of 2025 as a Business Developer. With a decade of experience in international business development, Matheus brings valuable expertise in fostering client relationships and identifying growth opportunities.
In this blog, we sit down with Matheus to learn more about his role, his insights into the South American piping market, and what motivates him at work each day.

Can you give us an overview of your career so far?
I have 10 years of experience in business development, working across various markets in Africa and Latin America (LATAM). My key strengths lie in communication and leveraging my global experience to build strong relationships and drive business growth in diverse regions.

What’s your favourite (and least favourite) day-to-day task?
My favourite task is engaging with customers and helping them find the best solutions for their needs. I really enjoy building relationships and ensuring they get the most value from our services.
As for my least favourite task, I would say the occasional administrative work—while necessary, it can sometimes take time away from the more dynamic aspects of my role.

What made you want to work for SPM?
I have always been passionate about working with diverse cultures, as I believe it fosters professional development and innovative thinking. Given SPM’s strong global presence and its reputation in the piping industry, it felt like the perfect fit for me.

What is your focus at the moment in your role?
Right now, my main focus is on strengthening and expanding our relationships with Brazilian clients while also exploring new market opportunities across South America. The goal is to drive growth, increase sales, and support new clients with high-quality piping solutions.

What are the big piping trends at the moment in your region?
Currently, there are exciting new opportunities in the region, with major players entering the market. In Brazil, FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) projects are creating new demands for specialist piping solutions. Meanwhile, in Chile, the booming mineral sector presents significant potential for growth and collaboration within the piping industry.

What are the priorities for the Brazilian sales team at the moment?
Our top priority is to continue expanding our presence in Brazil while ensuring we offer the best solutions tailored to our customers’ needs. Growth, efficiency, and excellent customer service remain at the heart of our strategy.

What does your typical day look like?
My days are filled with client meetings, preparing new presentations, and engaging with customers through phone calls, WhatsApp, in-person meetings, and web conferences. I also spend time planning business trips to high-potential regions, aligning with our competitive strategy to maximise growth opportunities.

What do you think the future holds for the piping world?
The piping industry has a bright future, with ongoing advancements in materials, technology, and sustainability. We will continue to see growth in emerging markets, particularly in South America, as infrastructure projects develop. Sustainability and efficiency will be key drivers shaping the industry’s future.

What keeps you motivated at work each day?
I’m fortunate to be part of such a driven and skilled team, where everyone is committed to solving challenges and supporting one another. Knowing that I am surrounded by professionals who inspire me daily motivates me to always do my best for the SPM family.

How do you relax after a hard day’s work in the office?
After a long day, I like to do sports at the beach, which helps me clear my mind and stay active. I also enjoy having a good meal with my wife, which is the perfect way to recharge.

If you had to choose another office around the world to work in, which would it be and why?
If I had to pick another location, I would love to work in Australia because of its amazing work-life balance. However, if we had the opportunity to open a new SPM office, I would be excited about Chile. The mineral market is thriving, and the country has immense business potential.
