A SPECIAL PIPING MATERIALS INTERVIEW WITH MANDY WIX

  1. What role are you currently in?

When I initially joined SPM three years ago I started as a sales coordinator and was responsible for managing international stock shipments. I have recently been promoted to sales.

  1. Can you give us an overview of your career so far?

I entered this industry straight out of high school at the of 18. Over the years, I have worn many hats. I began as a sales assistant and then transitioned into the Inventory/Production side of things. I have also worked alongside the Quality Control and MTR departments. This all means that I have gained much experience in various departments which I think gives me strong overall knowledge of how the industry works.

  1. What’s your favourite (and least favourite) day-to-day task?

My favourite day-to-day task is engaging with clients and helping them find solutions that meet their needs – it’s all about customer service here at SPM! My least favourite task has to be managing repetitive administrative paperwork, as important as I know it is!

  1. What made you want to work for SPM?

I wanted to work at SPM because it had a smaller and more close-knit team that is currently growing, and it has a great family-like environment. An added bonus for me is that the office is only ten minutes away from my house.

  1. What is your current focus in your role?

My current focus in my role is on enhancing sales strategies and improving customer relationships. I’m relishing the new challenge of being a sales executive. At SPM, I’ve found a real sense of teamwork and a supportive environment that allows you to learn and grow. It’s rewarding to know that the work we do has a global impact, helping major industries operate smoothly and safely.

  1. What are the big piping trends at the moment in Texas and the region of North America?

With the upcoming election year, the pipe industry usually experiences a slowdown. This is likely due to the uncertainty so many clients are being more cautious in anticipation of potential regulatory and policy changes. We are here to support them through this period.

  1. What are the current priorities for the Texas SPM team?

We pride ourselves on customer service, assisting our clients with any speciality testing and ensuring quick turnaround times.

  1. What do you think the future holds for the piping world?

While traditional oil and gas pipelines remain crucial, there is also a trend towards integrating renewable energy sources into the pipeline network.

  1. What does a typical ‘day in the office’ look like for you?

A typical day in the office involves a mix of various responsibilities. I always start by reviewing emails and prioritising tasks for the day and then I spend my time interacting with clients and addressing any inquiries or issues they may have. Additionally, I coordinate with the inventory and production teams to ensure smooth operations and timely deliveries.

  1. What keeps you motivated at work each day?

The opportunity for continuous learning and development keeps me engaged.

  1. How do you relax after a hard day’s work in the office?

I enjoy shopping, travelling, taking Disney trips with my girls, and spending time on the lake with my friends and family. I also love to cuddle with my little Mini Schnauzer, Winnie.

  1. If you had to choose another office around the world to work in, which would it be and why?

Definitely Australia – for the weather and the beaches.
