Under the leadership of Managing Director Jamie Hutchinson, the office focuses on serving the North Sea petroleum industry while also catering to clients in other regions where specialist pipes and fittings are required.

The Aberdeen team has earned a strong reputation for delivering excellent customer service, providing high-quality and high-performing products, and ensuring swift response times. With a 30,000 sq. ft warehouse stocked with an extensive range of specialist products, the team works tirelessly to meet the needs of clients who rely on them for prompt and reliable supply.

A Special Piping Materials Interview with Max Rossvoll-Booth

  1. How long have you worked with SPM?

I started working for SPM in November 2023.

  1. What role are you currently in?

I am the expeditor at SPM Aberdeen.

  1. Can you give us an overview of your career so far?

It has been an amazing learning experience. Stepping into this role has been both challenging and rewarding as I’ve gained a deeper understanding of my responsibilities and how they fit into the larger operations at SPM.

  1. What’s your favourite (and least favourite) day-to-day task?

My favourite task is definitely expediting orders, it’s satisfying to ensure everything is on track and running smoothly. My least favourite task would have to be filing, though it’s a necessary part of staying organised.

  1. What made you want to work for SPM?

I was drawn to SPM because of the opportunities and challenges the role presented. Learning a new industry and taking on a role with clear responsibilities and room for growth really appealed to me.

  1. What is your focus at the moment in your role?

My main focus is making sure that all orders arrive on time and that the sales team has up-to-date information about their individual orders.

  1. What are the big piping trends at the moment in Europe?

One of the most prominent trends is around hydrogen energy, there’s a lot of discussion about how we can move it from a concept into practical, widespread application.

  1. What are the priorities for the Aberdeen sales team at the moment?

Our primary priorities are to continue growing the business while maintaining the high levels of client satisfaction that we value so deeply at SPM.

  1. What does your typical day look like?

When I arrive at work, the first thing I do is go through any emails that come in overnight and action them as needed. After that, I focus on expediting orders that are due that day or later in the week, and I also organise collections for outgoing orders. Running invoices and keeping track of deliveries scheduled for the day is another key part of my day, as is ensuring that all necessary filing is completed.

  1. What do you think the future holds for the piping world?

I believe the industry will move increasingly towards renewable energy, with a strong focus on making it more applicable and practical on a global scale.

  1. What keeps you motivated at work each day?

I’m motivated by the satisfaction of producing good work and the ongoing opportunity to learn more about my role and the industry as a whole.

  1. How do you relax after a hard day’s work in the office?

I like to unwind by playing golf or watching a football match—if there’s a game on, you can bet I’m watching it!

  1. If you had to choose another office around the world to work in, which would it be and why?

I’d choose the Perth office in Australia. I went on holiday there last year, and I absolutely loved it. I’d jump at the chance to go back!
